Spirit survive FURIA comeback to move to 2-1 in Bucharest

Spirit are one step closer to the playoffs at PGL Masters Bucharest after a hard-fought 2-1 win over FURIA. The series swung across three maps — Nuke, Ancient and Mirage — before Spirit finished the job with a late comeback on the decider.

The result gives Spirit two shots at reaching the playoffs after recovering from their opening loss to BETBOOM. It also kept their momentum moving in the right direction after a shaky start to the event, with Danil "donk" Kryshkovets once again leading the charge for the Russian side.

Nuke gave Spirit the ideal start

Spirit opened the series with a comfortable-looking 13-7 win on Nuke. The map never really slipped away from them, as donk found impact entries and Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov repeatedly disrupted FURIA’s outside control.

A strong early stretch set the tone. sh1ro’s quad kill with the Dualies helped Spirit surge ahead, and a later 4k from Danil "molodoy" Golubenko stopped FURIA from building on a promising 3v5 situation. FURIA did manage to tie the score at 7-7 after winning the pistol and the follow-up round, but Spirit quickly regained control and closed the map with a six-round run.

Ancient turned into FURIA’s response

FURIA answered on Ancient, where Spirit struggled to match the same pace. Even though donk continued finding opening kills, FURIA looked more organised in the mid-rounds and built a commanding 9-3 lead at halftime.

Myroslav "zont1x" Plakhotia briefly sparked a response with a triple spray through smoke, but Spirit could not fully convert that moment into a sustained comeback. After winning the pistol, they trimmed the gap with a 5-1 run, yet Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis helped stabilise FURIA on the B site and shut the door before Spirit could get any closer.

Mirage came down to the final stretch

The decider followed a similar script at first, with Spirit racing to a 5-0 start on Mirage. FURIA slowly worked their way back into the map after switching to attack, however, and Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo found a series of important multi-kill rounds to help them reach the break down only 7-5.

After the side swap, FURIA grabbed another pistol round and then used strong team play on defence to move ahead 11-9. At that point, Spirit looked in danger of letting the match slip away, but zont1x and sh1ro found the openings needed to exploit B and bring the map back under control.

Spirit closed with four straight rounds to seal the series, preventing FURIA from turning their lead into a map win. For Spirit, the late recovery mattered just as much as the result itself: after losing their opener, they now still have two chances to book a playoff place. For FURIA, the match leaves them in an elimination spot and with questions to answer after letting a late Mirage lead disappear.
